Mellow Yellow

Hellooooooooo

Happy Monday everyone! How are y’all on this wonderful day? I hope you are doing ok, I know Monday’s are no fun BUT we can try to change that? hopefully? Maybe? Mike and I decided to make a little Ausflug last weekend. The trip basically was us riding around in the car to different places in the south of Munich.

The sun was shining in one direction and the clouds were grey in the other directions. Days like this make me sleepy and cuddly. Not only did we have an awesome day together, we decided to take some cute photos (well Mike took photos of me because I suck at taking photos). I am seriously one of those people that will stop on the side of the road to take a picture with a cow or a flower.

If you are in Munich and you are able to move around (Car, Bike or anything that allows you to move freely) I recommend going towards Wolfratshausen ❤ It’s so beautiful and the photos ops in this area are amazing!

Love yall ❤

How to Learn German FAST

Guten Tag ❤

Hey Ya’ll! Ok so most of yall know me from Youtube and have some sort of weird obsession…maybe I should call it passion…Like myself with Germany. I have soaked up the culture (a mixture of German and Bavarian ;)) like a sponge and try my best to be as Germanized as possible.

One of the easiest ways to understand a culture and adapt the quickest is to learn the language! I know, it’s a lot harder than I make it seem BUT that is the reason for this post. I have teamed up with a wonderful app (because I love educational apps that help spread language knowledge) called Flash Academy, you can CLICK HERE to have a go at it.

I personally find Flash Academy to be user friendly and engaging. I am one of those people that can not sit in a class listening to the same lecture for an hour (or as the German language courses like to do, 2.5+ hours). I get bored, I get distracted and everything is so monotone. That is why I personally like this app. It’s constantly changing.

If you would like to watch my video about the app you can CLICK HERE

Basically this app is trying to help you graduate on to the next level of language “mastery” (these are my own words such a wonderful “describer”). There are puzzles, games, exercises…All which cater to learning German and making it fun 😀 I would recommend getting an app 100% (I said this on Youtube over a year ago) and I feel that after searching through and through, Flash Academy is taking learning German to a whole other level!! ❤

I wish yall a wonderful happy Saturday and be safe!!

Being “Black” in Germany

Good evening everyone!

Being sick and stuck in bed the past week has given me a lot of time to think of things to say/do when I am feeling better BUT UNTIL THAT DAY COMES I WILL MAKE A BLOG POST. I made a wonderful video lightly skimming the surface about being a “Woman of Color” here in Germany. I get asked often what it is like here in regards to racism and in general just being brown.

As always I am here to speak (well type) about what my experiences have been and what my opinion on the matter is. If you are looking for a hate filled post you might as well go to another blog or something BECAUSE IT AIN’T HAPPENING HURRR.

I know that a lot of people still think of Germany as this racist nation full of Hitler loving blonde hair blue eyed soldiers BUT sorry to break it to you THAT’S NOT TRUE. Germany is one of the most diverse countries in the world (personal opinion). Germany is surrounded/bordered by so many different countries that it is inevitable that it would be a melting pot PLUS they have Berlin…Which is basically Multi-Culti capital.

I do understand there is tension due to the whole “refugee crisis”(ughhh) as some like to say, which leads me to point 1…. The “racism” that I see in Germany has nothing to do with African Americans but with Middle Eastern & African folks. I feel like Turkish, Syrian, Nigerian  etc. etc. people get the sh*t end of the stick here in Germany. I am not saying they are treated horribly but I do see and hear people say things that sound a little “iffy” or I have to ask myself “Is that really necessary to say or do to/about these people?”

In regards to being identified here, I have never once had to list my “race” … SKIN COLOR….as an identifier. I mean I got in a lot of trouble for not deciding between the two religions they offered BUT I am still here and standing. I have not had to list my race for getting an ID card or for voting or for ANYTHING. In the US I had to list my race on college applications, test, voters registration application or drivers license.

I get a few stares, I get a few “woher kommst du?” and I get a few people that think my hair is a sponge BUT that’s not too harmful and I feel like I can educate people when they seem to be a little perplexed. As most people know I have an obsession with Germany. I really love it here and I feel that Germany and the people here are not able to love their country or their culture. Germany is a bustling land of culture and history, which has come so far from it’s past and I believe the best way to get over this “racist/nazi” Germany mindset is to just MOVE ON PEOPLE. Seriously, we do not have to forget but we can very easily scoot scoot into the future.

Paris..Oui..Oui

Hello Franz 😀

Paris trip number 2. As most of yall know I spent a little time in France for the Holidays. I really did not think 4 months ago that I would end up in France for the New Year but life is always a little funny in that regard.

Anywho I ate too much, saw a lot of sites, walked a lot of kilometers, said Mon Cheri too many times to count and fell in love with such a beautiful city. If you have never ever been to Paris or even France for that matter…YOU SHOULD. It’s edgy, it’s sexy, it’s old, its modern. It’s just a big ole contradiction….There is so much to be found in Paris and you will never get bored.

PLUS THERE’S A MUDDAFRIKKIN CHIPOTLE ❤

Ho Ho Ho

Happy Holidays Friends

It is December…The time has been flying by so fast and I still have yet to get my life together. I am currently sitting at my desk eating chocolate and praying that the chocolate is magical and does not make me fat -_- A girl can dream right?

Coming from Florida I never really had the “White Christmas” experience. I saw snow when I was 16 and I was not that amused. I am used to being at the beach on the 26th of December drinking a Pina Colada (no joke, it’s like a tradition..I’m an alcoholic..UGH MOTHER DONT JUDGE ME). None the less moving to Germany has taught me a lot of things and has opened my eyes to so many culture shocks BUT one of the most major culture shocks I have experienced are the Christmas/Festive/Holiday/Winter times.

Ok you’re probably thinking “Hayley Christmas is Christmas”..YEAH I USED TO THINK THIS AS WELL BUT I WAS WRONG.. WE ARE WRONG TOGETHER. WE ARE ALLLL SIMPLY WRONG.

This post will not go into the details about Christmas/Winter it will just skim the surface and I hope that is enough for yall. I will post a video this a week before Christmas (the 16th-18th ish because Christmas is on the 25th for us crazy Americans) and you can watch it to see some more points/hear what I have to say about Christmas. I will be listing  5 points and save the rest for the video! Enjoy ❤

  • Christmas is celebrated on the 24th in Germany and the 25th in The United States
    1. The Germans (some) have a “preliminary”(the easiest word I could use) Christmas that is on the 6th of December and children receive presents.

  • Germany has crazy Christmas Markets (seriously you can not compare it to anything in the United States). In The USA we have a bunch of parades and they usually bring about a feeling of Christmas.

  • Trees in America are ridiculous (we have candy canes, lights, popcorn Cindy Crawford Home decor..hehe). German trees seem to be more traditional.

  • The German Santa Claus system can be very confusing if you are not informed about it beforehand. Different regions use different names for the same person. In the USA we use Santa for EVERYTHING.
    • Don’t be surprised if you are in Munich that you hear Christkindl and if you are up north you hear weihnachtsmann….It’s typical

  • The final point which is my favorite is that in The USA we have eggnog and in Germany there is GLÜHWEIN which is basically THE BEST DRINK EVER… Mulled wine…Sweet, warm and makes you want to sit on the couch cuddling your dog or cat or hamster…Whichever you prefer.

If you are moving to Germany or just visiting, enjoy as much and as many Christmas markets as you can and take 1,000,000 photos! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and many many kisses.

Why I Love Germany

Hey Yall!

Ok this blog post is so overdue, I have been wanting to do something like this for awhile but I am just lazy and the only reason I am posting this is because I am uploading my “Why I love Germany video” on Youtube tomorrow and I am trying to have a little organization for my social media. I feel like time is just passing by…Well flying by and the only thing that is changing is that my waistline is getting wider and my skin is getting drier BUT HERE I AM to talk about one of my favorite topics: GERMANY

I have been in Germany for a small period of my life and I think that sometimes people get the wrong impression about/from me. “Why complain? If you don’t like Germany so much then leave”. I always have to think to myself…If I did not like Germany I would not be here. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I would not be thinking about becoming a German citizen. I would not be giving so much effort into immersing myself into a culture etc etc.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I know (believe me I KNOW) but I honestly would like to say that Germany is my favorite place on planet Earth. I don’t want to leave, don’t plan on leaving, will try my hardest to be “ein bissl deutsch” and give everything to stay here for as long as I can.

People ask me “why?” and is it cliche to say…”you have to come here to understand”? I mean I really can not give Germany justice with words, pictures or videos. The love I have for this place is deeper than kasespatzle and Oktoberfest. The reason I love Germany so much has to do with what has happened inside of me. Moving here has made me “think outside of the box”. I mean…. I am totally outside of the box no matter what but living here opened my eyes to so many things and expanded the way I think.

There may be times that I have my moments (we all have them..Jessica Simpson Dukes of Hazard moments “Duh”) but if you would have met me 3+ years ago you would have met a different girl. I love Germany because it has changed me for the better. I may not be where people want me to be in life but I am where I need to be and I am so thankful that Germany has opened their door & heart so long for this crazy American<3
