Follow up for the video I posted about being an aupair, I decided to make a blog post that is a little more organized in regards to this topic. Sorry it took so long, I have a chaotic unorganized life. I have dedicated so much of my time to being an aupair and I feel like I am a pro…Actually I fail miserably at it but I enjoy it.

Lets just jump right in.

An aupair is an exchange….You offer childcare and light household cleaning in exchange for a place to stay in some foreign country and a little money on the side. Is being an aupair glamorous? Not at all. If you are lucky…You could end up with a glamorous family and vacation with them in New York, Miami and London….Does that happen often? Nope. I was so lucky because I have been with a family that has taken me to places, I would never be able to visit or afford in my lifetime without them. Most of the time the families are “normal” MEANING not extremely rich but not really middle class or poor.

I get SOOOOOO many questions about my experience, how I have stayed so long, how much money I make ETC ETC. Now granted I can not answer every question BUT I can give a run down of every important point I feel is very necessary when thinking about becoming an aupair.

  • You live with the people you work for. You eat with the people you work for. You spend your time off around the people you work for…and the list goes on.
    • What I mean is that you could very easily GET TIRED of the people and you will most like have a little lack of privacy. Their home is your home and sharing is caring. If you are not a people person or do not enjoy spending time with people, I would not recommend being an aupair. There are days where you just want to walk around naked and that sometimes isn’t always possible.

  • You don’t get paid a lot of money. I think the going rate is 260/300$ euros/usd. Now when I first became an aupair, I really thought this was a lot of money BUT after 1 week in Munich I quickly learned I was a peasant and had to learn how to be frugal like a peasant….No seriously it’s not a lot of money…Especially if you have a weird obsession with Döner and currywurst (why am I such a fat ass?).

  • Your hours are a little mixed up. You will not have typical job hours of 9-5. I consider this a pro because I have a forever changing schedule and usually have a lot of time for myself but a lot of people see this as a con. Granted some families love having a continuous fluid schedule that never changes and if it does change they find a resolution that usually does not involve you. I find that working Monday 1 hour, Tuesday 0 hours, Wednesday 5, etc etc. and the next week a totally different schedule….quite exciting for a “monotonous” job.

  • It’s an awesome gap year. I always recommend being an aupair to people that are indecisive about going to school to start their degree or even finish their degree. Would I recommend you staying here over a year just to be an aupair and not do anything else? HECK NO. Either you stay and find a new job or you can stay with your family and start a second job or volunteer doing something.

  • Go to the immigration office with someone that speaks German or at least have basic knowledge of German. I promise with a little basic knowledge you will get a lot further.
    • Bring all documents and forms to immigration office
    • Get there early
    • Fill out everything COMPLETELY and legible (they won’t accept it if they can’t read it)
    • Bring cash, they usually do not accept card

  • It’s easy but hard at the same time. I mean you work with kids constantly and children can be very stressful and exhausting BUT you usually only work about 4-5 hours a day. I had so much time to do everything I wanted to do.

  • LEARN THE LANGUAGE. Seriously use this time to immerse yourself in the culture. You have no idea how good it looks to list: Basic – Intermediate X language knowledge.

  • Meet people. Do not lock yourself in your room all day and night. Please go out and make friends. If you are in a big city there are usually hundreds of other aupairs out there looking for friends.

  • Save your money and make extra money!
    • Babysitting
    • Side jobs
    • Teaching English- being a tutor (if you speak English)
    • Find a hobby that you can make money from

Walking in Germany

Good evening everyone!

Since living in Germany I have done 2 things….Gained weight and learned to walk. Granted I knew how to walk in the USA but it’s just not as common as in Germany. They have the whole “spaziergang” thing down to a T. I know you would think if I walk so much more nowadays, I shouldn’t be gaining weight….Have you ever heard of German bread? It’s the devil’s best friend.

This post isn’t necessarily about my weight gain, it’s about WALKING and how nice it is. I am able to experience Germany in a different way. Walking the streets of somewhere is half the fun. Anyone can drive a car, park it and arrive at the destination but I have learned that the journey is what makes everything so magical. I think I realize now one of the main reasons I fell in love with Munich (don’t get me wrong, there are millions) was due the fact that I discovered this city all by myself by foot. I have discovered treasures that I would never be able to discover if I did not WALK.

If you are in Germany and you are able to walk from point a to point b…PLEASE DO SO. Not only is it the healthier option, it is the most scenic 😀

Traveling to Munich?

Hey You guys,

Ok so most of y’all know that  I live in Munich, Germany. BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD. A lot of people that watch my videos, read my blog or follow me in general are interested in A) German culture through an American’s eyes or B) Looking for tips before coming to Germany. This wonderful blog post is for you people that are coming to Munich in the near future.

Munich is full of fancy cars, beautiful people and most importantly BEER. Not only is there a lot of it but the beer actually taste good. I 100% recommend a trip to a biergarten if you are in Munich from the months of April/May-September :D. The buzzing atmosphere will make you feel so welcome.

I have found a map of I guess the “best” biergartens in Munich that are accessible by public transportation. There are many that are not accessible by public transportation BUT I can’t give y’all all the secrets, now can I?

Biergarten Munich

Have a wonderful day & I love you guys ❤

Martinskopf/Herzogstand Hiking

Hey yall! What’s up?

Last weekend Mike and I decided to wake up early . We actually woke up at 12 and decided it would be a perfect time to go hiking! We got ourselves ready, packed our bags, ate something and even stopped by the bank to get cash. Let’s just say we did not make it to our “ziel” until 2:30pm -_- I have only been hiking a few times and I am not experienced at all in the skill of hiking (I’m from Florida..we don’t have mountains).

Mike told me it would be an easy 1 hour 45 minute hike up…..to Martinskopf

After googling about the mountain I found out that…. Martinskopf is a 1675hm climb -_- with an estimated 2h45m time. As Mike and I were beginning our climb a cute old lady said “oh, a night tour…that’s cute” and I thought to myself “what the hell is this lady talking about?”. I would soon find out at 5pm when we got to the hutte at the top with my schnitzel that there was no way (if we wanted to make it to the kreuz) that we would be back in daylight.

As yall could guess…It took forever and a decade to finish our  food get to the top of Martinskopf and make it back down BUT when 9pm hit …our feet were finally on flat surface.

Moral of the story…1st) Don’t trust your boyfriend when he says it’ll be a 2 hour hike! 2nd) Don’t go hiking later than 2pm. 3rd) DON’T WEAR Nike Air Max.

and last but not least be very thankful that your boyfriend dragged you out of the house to experience such beauty ❤

Mellow Yellow

Happy Monday everyone! How are y’all on this wonderful day? I hope you are doing ok, I know Monday’s are no fun BUT we can try to change that? hopefully? Maybe? Mike and I decided to make a little Ausflug last weekend. The trip basically was us riding around in the car to different places in the south of Munich.

The sun was shining in one direction and the clouds were grey in the other directions. Days like this make me sleepy and cuddly. Not only did we have an awesome day together, we decided to take some cute photos (well Mike took photos of me because I suck at taking photos). I am seriously one of those people that will stop on the side of the road to take a picture with a cow or a flower.

If you are in Munich and you are able to move around (Car, Bike or anything that allows you to move freely) I recommend going towards Wolfratshausen ❤ It’s so beautiful and the photos ops in this area are amazing!

Love yall ❤

How to Learn German FAST

Guten Tag ❤

Hey Ya’ll! Ok so most of yall know me from Youtube and have some sort of weird obsession…maybe I should call it passion…Like myself with Germany. I have soaked up the culture (a mixture of German and Bavarian ;)) like a sponge and try my best to be as Germanized as possible.

One of the easiest ways to understand a culture and adapt the quickest is to learn the language! I know, it’s a lot harder than I make it seem BUT that is the reason for this post. I have teamed up with a wonderful app (because I love educational apps that help spread language knowledge) called Flash Academy, you can CLICK HERE to have a go at it.

I personally find Flash Academy to be user friendly and engaging. I am one of those people that can not sit in a class listening to the same lecture for an hour (or as the German language courses like to do, 2.5+ hours). I get bored, I get distracted and everything is so monotone. That is why I personally like this app. It’s constantly changing.

If you would like to watch my video about the app you can CLICK HERE

Basically this app is trying to help you graduate on to the next level of language “mastery” (these are my own words such a wonderful “describer”). There are puzzles, games, exercises…All which cater to learning German and making it fun 😀 I would recommend getting an app 100% (I said this on Youtube over a year ago) and I feel that after searching through and through, Flash Academy is taking learning German to a whole other level!! ❤

I wish yall a wonderful happy Saturday and be safe!!

❤ Always Hayley

Dirndl Time

Ok, so I have neglected my blog. I know, I am horrible. I have been extremely busy…You try having 2 jobs and working an average 40-50 hours a week and run a Youtube channel and blog (If you do this…Bless you). I am so happy to finally squeeze back into my dirndl. I took a hibernation phase which also meant gaining SO MUCH WEIGHT AND HAVING TO go 2 sizes up in my dirndl BUT I enjoyed all the chocolate :p

“About uh week ago..or 2” My favorite Dirndl brand EVER Trachtenwahnsinn LINK HERE had a fashion show in Aloft Munich for their new collection. Basically bringing in the new season for Munich means Dirndl fashion shows everywhere (just kidding). 😀 I was there to add my dimples to the mix and let me tell you guys I fell in love all over again with these bad boys. These dirndls are seriously HAYLEY, they scream my name from the top of the rooftops all through Munich all the while throwing glitter and flowers at pedestrians (am I weird?).

I would just like to say that I am having so much fun in Munich and it’s living up to be everything I ever wanted ❤ Also if you want to see me being stupid on TV…. CLICK HERE

Hopefully I can add more to this story of mine..This relationship I have with Trachtenwahnsinn is so geil :p I also plan on making some videos about this so we shall see!!!

❤ Always Hayley
